ABB ACS310 Fault Codes List

Complete troubleshooting guide for ABB ACS310 VFD fault codes. Learn how to diagnose pump and fan drive errors, reset the ACS310, and fix common trip issues.

The ABB ACS310 is a specialized micro drive designed for squared torque applications such as centrifugal pumps and fans. It features built-in PID controllers and pump-clean functions. However, when a system issue occurs, the drive will display a fault code to protect the motor and the hardware.

In this guide, we break down the ABB ACS310 fault codes and provide troubleshooting steps to help you get your pumping or ventilation system back up and running as quickly as possible.

Difference Between Alarms and Faults

Understanding how the ACS310 communicates is the first step in troubleshooting:

  • Alarms (A5xxx): These are warnings. The drive continues to run, but a message flashes on the screen. Ignoring alarms often leads to a hard fault later.
  • Faults (F0xxx): These are critical errors. The drive stops the motor immediately. You must diagnose the problem and manually reset the drive.

Common ACS310 Issues in Pumping Applications

Since the ACS310 is widely used in water systems, many fault codes are related to external plumbing issues rather than the drive itself:

  • Inlet/Outlet Blockage: Can lead to Overcurrent or Motor Overload codes.
  • Pipe Fill Errors: If you use the Pipe Fill function, the drive may trip if the pressure doesn't rise within the set time.
  • Dry Run Protection: If the load drops too low, the drive may trigger an underload fault to protect the pump seals.

How to Reset the ABB ACS310 Drive

Once the issue is fixed, use one of these methods to clear the fault from the memory:

  1. Keypad: Press the RESET button (usually the top right soft key on the Assistant panel).
  2. Digital Input: If a reset bit is programmed in Parameter 1604, you can reset via a switch or PLC signal.
  3. Power Cycle: Turn off the main supply, wait for the display to turn off completely, then restart.
Safety Warning: Always verify that it is safe to restart the motor. If the fault was caused by a mechanical jam or short circuit, restarting without fixing the root cause can result in total drive failure.

Conclusion

Diagnosing ABB ACS310 fault codes is straightforward once you know where to look. By matching the code on the display with the troubleshooting list above, you can significantly reduce downtime in your facility.
