How to Read VFD-VE Faults via Keypad & VFDSoft
Since the VFD-VE is used in complex tension and position applications, simple error codes are rarely enough. In 2026, utilizing PC tools is standard practice for diagnosis:
- Parameter Group 06 (Protection):
- 06-17 to 06-22: Stores the history of the last 6 faults.
- 06-23 to 06-28: Records status data (Frequency, Current, Voltage) at the time of the trip. Checking 06-24 (Output Current) is vital to see if the motor was actually overloaded or if the sensor was just noisy.
- VFDSoft (PC Tool): Connect your laptop via the RS-485 port. For tension control applications, use the Data Scope feature to trace “Torque Reference” vs. “Actual Speed.” If the drive trips on “PGF” (PG Feedback Error), the scope will show if the encoder signal dropped out before or after the stop command.
- PG Card Status: The VFD-VE relies on an option card (e.g., EMV-PG01) for encoder feedback. Ensure the LEDs on this card are active; a dead card is the primary cause of FOC failures.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What does the “PGF1” or “PGF2” code mean?
A: These are the most common faults on the VFD-VE series.
- PGF1: The drive detects the encoder signal is missing. Check for broken wires or a loose coupling on the motor shaft.
- PGF2: The drive detects the encoder direction is reversed. Swap the A and B phase wires on the terminal block or change Parameter 10-02 (Encoder Input Type).
Q: How do I reset a Delta VFD-VE fault?
A:
- Press the RESET key on the KPV-CE01 keypad.
- Trigger the External Reset (Multi-function Input configured to 05).
- Power cycle the drive (essential for hardware flags like GFF or OCc).
Q: Why does the drive trip on “Auto-Tuning” (Fault AUE)?
A: The VFD-VE requires accurate motor data for FOC. If Auto-Tuning fails:
- Ensure the motor is completely uncoupled from the load (for Rotational Tuning).
- Check that the motor nameplate data (Group 01) is entered exactly.
- If the motor cannot be uncoupled, try “Static Tuning” (Parameter 02-01 = 2), though performance may be lower.
